How It Works

From Idea to Story in Three Steps

Fanon gives your universe rules, characters, and timelines a clear role in every story you create. Here is how the process works.

The Fanon Process

01

Define Your Universe

Set up your universe with its rules, characters, locations, tone, and lore. Build character profiles with their personalities, voices, histories, and relationships. These details give Fanon the context it needs to keep each story grounded in your universe.

02

Generate and Refine

Describe the scene you want in plain language. Fanon creates a draft, then checks it against your character profiles, timeline events, and world rules. Canon Guard flags potential conflicts for review. Edit the draft, regenerate a scene, or adjust the direction until it fits your story.

03

Publish Your Story

When your story is ready, publish it from Fanon. Share your finished work with readers who follow your universe and characters, then continue building from the same creative foundation.

Inside Canon Guard

Canon Guard runs three passes on each draft, checking for different kinds of conflict.

Common Questions

Set up a universe by defining its rules, characters, and lore. Fanon uses the details you provide as the foundation for your fan-fiction and character content.

As much as you want. Use Fanon to shape an idea, draft a scene, or develop a larger story, then revise the result in the editor and publish it as your own work.

Canon Guard flags potential conflicts for review. Check the affected rule or character profile, dismiss an intentional flag, or regenerate the passage before adding it to your draft.

Studio includes space for up to 3 co-creators, so you can build stories together around the same universe.

You own your content. Fanon claims no rights to what you create or publish. You can download or delete your stories at any time.
