Terms of Service
1. The Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Fanon Private Limited ("the Company," "we," "us," or "our"), with its registered office at Koramangala, 3rd Block, 80 Feet Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560095, India. Creating an account on fanon-in.com (the "Platform") or using any Platform feature confirms that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms.
These Terms do not limit statutory rights under the laws of your country of residence. If you disagree, do not use the Platform.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 to create a Fanon account. If under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian reviewed and accepted these Terms for you. Users under 18 cannot directly buy paid subscriptions; a parent or guardian must do so for them.
By registering, you confirm that your information is accurate and that you have legal capacity to enter this agreement.
3. Your Account
You must protect your account credentials and are responsible for activity under your account. If you suspect compromise, promptly notify us at [email protected].
Do not transfer your account, share login credentials, or use another person's account without permission.
4. Creator Content: Ownership and Your Licence to Us
You keep ownership of original creative work you author and publish through the Platform, including universe notes, character descriptions, story segments, and drafts (collectively, "your Content").
Submitting Content grants the Company a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable licence to host, store, process, display, and distribute your Content only as needed to operate and provide the Platform. It does not permit commercial exploitation outside the Platform, sublicensing to third parties for independent use, or sale of your Content.
No model training without consent: The Company will not use your Content to train its underlying AI language models without your prior explicit written consent. Any future proposal would use a separate opt-in consent process, with no training use by default.
Deleting Content or your account ends the licence for that Content, except for copies already delivered to users who engaged with it, such as readers who saved or bookmarked a story segment.
5. Fan Content and IP Policy
No official affiliation. Fanon Private Limited has no official affiliation, partnership, endorsement, or licensing relationship with any third-party IP owner, franchise holder, studio, publisher, or rights holder. The Platform does not authorise use of any particular third-party IP.
Source material rights remain with their owners. Fan-fiction uses existing fictional universes, characters, and storylines as creative expression. The Company claims no rights in underlying source material that may inspire fan works. Third-party source-material IP rights remain with their respective owners.
Your responsibility as a creator. By creating and publishing fan works, you represent that they are personal, non-commercial, transformative creative expression. The Company cannot assess the legal status of every fan-fiction work, so you are responsible for understanding and following applicable copyright law.
No real-person content in harmful contexts. Content showing real, living individuals in sexualised, defamatory, or otherwise harmful scenarios is prohibited and will be removed under our Content Policy.
6. Prohibited Conduct
You may not use the Platform to:
- Upload, generate, or distribute defamatory, obscene, pornographic content, or content exploiting or harming minors;
- Infringe a third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
- Impersonate a person or entity, or misstate your affiliation with one;
- Upload viruses, malware, or other harmful code;
- Try to obtain unauthorised access to the Platform, our servers, or other systems;
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically download Platform content without our express written permission;
- Use automated tools to create large volumes of Content to manipulate the community feed or exploit generation quotas;
- Use the Platform for any purpose that violates applicable law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the rules made thereunder.
7. Content Moderation and Takedown
The Company reviews content reported as breaching these Terms or applicable law. After a valid complaint, we may remove or disable access, suspend the responsible account, and respond to the complainant.
Copyright infringement claims. If you believe Platform content infringes your copyright, contact our Grievance Officer (see Section 9) and provide: (a) a description of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed; (b) the URL or location of the allegedly infringing Platform content; (c) a statement of your good-faith belief that the use is unauthorised; (d) your name, address, telephone number, and email address; and (e) a statement, under penalty of applicable law, that your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act for the owner.
We aim to acknowledge takedown notices within 24 hours and act on valid notices within 15 days.
8. Fanon as an Intermediary under the IT Act, 2000
The Company operates as an intermediary within the meaning of Section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. It does not originate, select recipients of, or modify the meaning of user-created and published content. The Company's liability for user-generated content is governed by Section 79 of the IT Act and the safe harbour it provides, subject to compliance with due diligence duties under the IT Rules 2021.
To meet those obligations, the Company publishes these Terms and its Privacy Policy, appoints a Grievance Officer, and answers valid takedown requests. The Company does not endorse, support, or accept responsibility for user-generated content on the Platform.
9. Grievance Officer
In accordance with Rule 3(2) of the IT Rules 2021, the Company has appointed a Grievance Officer for user complaints about Platform content, data practices, or any other matter under these Terms.

The Grievance Officer will acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and provide a substantive response within 15 days of receipt.
10. The Platform's Intellectual Property
The Company or its licensors own the Platform, including its software, AI systems, design, graphics, interface, and Company-authored text, which intellectual property law protects. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it for its intended purpose under these Terms. Except where mandatory law permits, you may not copy, reproduce, reverse-engineer, or make derivative works from it.
11. Paid Subscriptions
Paid Creator and Studio tiers are billed monthly or annually as selected at checkout. Fees are charged at each period's start. You may cancel anytime, effective at period-end, with no pro-rata refund for unused time. The Company may change pricing on 30 days' written notice, and you may cancel before the change takes effect.
If payment fails, we will retry within a reasonable period. Continued failure may downgrade you to the Starter tier until payment is resolved.
12. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Company disclaims express or implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise error-free or uninterrupted operation, or any quality or accuracy standard for AI-generated content. Mandatory consumer warranties in your country of residence remain unaffected.
A language model produces Platform AI content, which may be inaccurate, inconsistent, or unsuitable. You must review and edit AI outputs before publishing.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Company's total liability for a claim related to the Platform or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) subscription fees paid to the Company in the three months before the claim, or (b) INR 500 (Indian Rupees five hundred). This does not limit liability that mandatory law prevents limiting, including death or personal injury caused by negligence.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Company, its officers, employees, and contractors against claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from: (a) your use of the Platform contrary to these Terms; (b) Content you submit, generate, or publish; or (c) infringement of a third-party right, including intellectual property rights.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Platform and delete your account anytime. The Company may suspend or terminate it for breach, legal requirement, or Platform discontinuation. Where possible, we will give reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your Content. Sections 4 (as to content already published), 5, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 16 survive termination.
16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Platform is subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Bengaluru, India, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your country of residence.
17. Changes and Contact
The Company may revise these Terms to reflect changes in the Platform, law, or our practices. Material revisions will show a new "Last updated" date. We will email registered users about significant changes. Continued use after notice means you accept the revised Terms.
